Merchant Navy
The Merchant Navy is the name given to the commercial shipping industry. It comprises of shipping companies that own and manage a wide range of different types and sizes of ships. To join commercial shipping industry one needs to undergo a graduate programme of 3 to 4 years depending on his personal choice of course at colleges affiliated by IMU.
Indian Maritime University (IMU) will conduct common admission test (CET) for admission to its Under Graduate programmes at its affiliated Institutes. There will be a CET common to all UG & graduate programmes. For IMU-CET computer based or online exams will be conducted. Undergraduate programmes: 1) B.Tech (Marine Engineering)- 4 years 2) B.Sc (Ship Building & Repair)- 3 years 3) B.Sc (Nautical Science) – 3 years 4) Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc (Nautical Science) – 1 year
Undergraduate programmes: 1) 2-Year MBA (Port and Shipping Management) 2) 2-Year MBA (International Transportation and Logistics Management) 3) 2-Year M.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) 4) 2-Year M.Tech (Dredging and Harbour Engineering)
